Our Minneapolis, MN Arts, Community, and Education team is seeking a Senior Project Architect who is passionate about shaping meaningful environments through design excellence, technical rigor, and collaborative leadership.

 

As a Senior Project Architect, you will be a vital part of our integrated design process—working alongside visionary designers and strategic project managers to deliver innovative, high-performance architecture that reflects our clients’ missions and values.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead architectural development across all project phases—from concept design through construction administration—with a strong focus on design integrity and technical execution;
  • collaborate closely with design teams to translate conceptual ideas into buildable, inspiring spaces;
  • champion design quality and sustainability across a diverse portfolio of cultural, educational, and civic projects;
  • engage directly with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to foster trust, alignment, and creative problem-solving and
  • mentor emerging talent and contribute to a studio culture that values curiosity, experimentation, and continuous learning.

In this role you will:

  1. develop a thorough understanding of projects’ design philosophy and provides major input in developing a design and building performance strategy and effectively conveys this to assigned team members when appropriate;
  2. provide technical design input and be responsible for a project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work, in close collaboration with the client and project team;
  3. seek creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documents to support these solutions;
  4. actively collaborate with and coordinate work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure the project; deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the design concept and performance goals of the project;
  5. contribute to the preparation of design documents and leads the detailed development of construction documents during all project phases, delivering complete, accurate and coordinated project documentation;
  6. advance the production of schematic, design development and construction documents drawings and specifications in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost and design intent; 
  7. perform construction administration duties (e.g. RFI’s, RFP’s, change orders, etc.);
  8. execute applicable agency review analysis (accessibility, zoning, life-safety, etc.); and
  9. maintain contact with clients, consultants and contractors during all project phases, participating in marketing, client and owner presentations as required.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture; Architectural registration preferred
  • LEED accreditation preferred
  • 15+ years of experience on small- to large-scale project types.
  • Strong design skills are important
  • Proficiency in Revit required; Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, and other graphic tools desired and Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly with team members and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and be responsible for project delivery which may be multiple, large or complex in scope
  • Ability to lead remote teams

Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA’s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $103,200 - $126,100
