We are seeking a talented and experienced Sr Project Architect to join our Science + Technology team based in San Francisco. This is a unique opportunity to work with a nationally recognized team that programs and designs advanced research environments for higher education, corporate, government, and healthcare clients.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Serve as part of the core project leadership team—alongside the Senior Designer and Project Manager—developing complex, high-performance design solutions tailored to each client’s vision and goals.

  2. Lead and contribute to all phases of project development, from concept through construction administration, with a focus on design integrity, technical excellence, and client service.

  3. Engage in client-facing activities and strengthen relationships through exceptional delivery and strategic insight.

  4. Maintain a strong commitment to design quality across a diverse range of project types and scales.

In this role you will:

  1. Develops a thorough understanding of projects’ design philosophy and provides major input in developing a design and building performance strategy and effectively conveys this to assigned team members when appropriate;
  2. Provides technical design input. Responsible for a project’s technical design effort, subsequent detailed design development, project coordination and quality control efforts during all phases of project work, in close collaboration with the client and project team;
  3. Seeks creative and innovative solutions to assigned tasks and develops appropriate research and documents to support these solutions Actively collaborates with and coordinates work of consultants and knowledge resources to ensure the project; deliverables are coordinated, integrated and support the design concept and performance goals of the project;
  4. Contributes to the preparation of design documents and leads the detailed development of construction documents during all project phases, delivering complete, accurate and coordinated project documentation;
  5. Advances the production of schematic, design development and construction documents drawings and specifications in compliance with project scope, schedule, cost and design intent; 
  6. Performs construction administration duties (e.g. RFI’s, RFP’s, change orders, etc.);
  7. Executes applicable agency review analysis (accessibility, zoning, life-safety, etc.); and
  8. Maintains contact with clients, consultants and contractors during all project phases, participating in marketing, client and owner presentations as required.

You will need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture
  • Architectural registration preferred
  • LEED accreditation preferred
  • 15+  years of experience on small- to large-scale project types.
  • Experience working on hi-tech labs would be a plus
  • Strong design skills are important
  • Proficiency in Revit required; Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Enscape, and other graphic tools desired and Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly with team members and clients
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and be responsible for project delivery which may be multiple, large or complex in scope
  • Ability to lead remote teams

Salary Information:

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA’s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $115,400-158,800
