We are looking for a talented, ambitious mechanical engineer with good people skills to join our Minneapolis office and work on a variety projects throughout the country.

    In this position, you will perform mechanical engineering duties and responsibilities as delegated by the Project Manager maintaining a commitment to design and quality in a manner consistent with project expectations, responsive to the client's needs and deadlines, and consistent with HGA engineering procedures, standards and quality expectations. You will perform calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for mechanical designs such as heating and cooling loads, equipment sizing, materials or site conditions.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

    1. Extensive design experience in sizing and configuring air distribution systems, including direct coordination with architectural, structural and electrical disciplines.
    2. Experience in the layout of mechanical rooms to direct the production of enlarged mechanical room plans and sections; including chillers, boilers, pumps, etc.
    3. Experience in the analysis of steam and hydraulic systems.
    4. Demonstrated knowledge of DDC controls systems design and implementation.
    5. Competency in performing mechanical engineering calculations, energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis.
    6. Research design options and select equipment, layout duct and piping, create and edit project details, write and edit specifications.
    7. Plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate mechanical engineering work on projects.
    8. Resolve a variety of complex problems, i.e. conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult condition requirements.
    9. Review shop drawings, research code issues and ask general questions of code officials.
    10. Keep Project Manager informed of workload and any changes in project scope or services through ongoing communication to understand any project changes, design issues or time/budget constraints that may impact initial assignment.

    COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) REQUIRED:

    Knowledge of:

    • Working knowledge of Revit, including integration with architectural models
    • Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, Excel)
    • Experience with designing systems in compliance with LEED principles and LEED certification is a plus

    Qualifications

    Preferred candidates will have:

    • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering focus.
    • PE required
    • Six years or more of experience in the design of HVAC systems for commercial, healthcare, labs or higher education project types and a desire to lead the design of mechanical systems for complex projects, preferred. 
    • LEED AP and/or member of professional societies (ASHRAE, ASPE, USGBC, CPD) helpful.
