    Building technology engineering is a rapidly evolving industry segment. We are looking for professionals with strong aptitudes for systems thinking and experience in communications, networking, fire & life safety, security (physical and cyber), audio/visual, web-based technologies, and data analysis to help us design the buildings of the future.


    This position requires well organized work processes, good people skills, effective communications style in both team settings and user groups, and a passion for high-quality design.



    1. Ability to plan, schedule, conduct and coordinate technology engineering and planning work.
      1. Oversee production of drawings and perform quality control review of documents.
      2. Create written reports that clearly communicate complex engineering concepts and translate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
      3. Edit specification sections.
      4. Produce final punch list.
      5. Document existing conditions and perform complex and detailed troubleshooting.
    2. Collaborate directly with clients and end users to strategize and determine technology program requirements for design and specification.
    3. Coordinate project design requirements with the internal and external design team members.
    4. Write scope of work for technology design based on preliminary review and meetings with the client.
    5. Prepare engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems.
    6. Produce sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks such as layout of equipment rooms and system connectivity.
    7. Present technology options to end users and project stakeholders, comparing and contrasting various solutions against the program needs.
    8. Resolve a variety of complex problems, i.e. conflicting design requirements, suitability of conventional materials, difficult condition requirements and non-routine code issues.
    9. Participate in marketing efforts and request for proposal responses and develop project fees and work plans.
    10. HGA is a national practice, and some travel will be required.
    11. Contribute to department design standards and protocols.



    • Knowledge of current technology applicable to Technology, IEEE, EIA/TIA and BICSI requirements and all applicable codes (city, state, federal) as well as knowledge of National Fire Protection Association/National Electrical Code (NFPA/NEC) Standards are essential.
    • Candidate must demonstrate an innovative approach to problem solving that is responsive to industry trends.
    • Strong candidates will possess an entrepreneurial spirit. Sales experience is a strength.


    Preferred candidates will have:

    • BS or MS degree in Architectural Engineering or Electrical Engineering
    • Professional Engineer Registration preferred
    • BICSI RCDD certification preferred
    • AVIXA CTS certification preferred
    • NICET certification preferred
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the design of Low Voltage Systems including Telecommunications Infrastructure, Security Systems—Video Surveillance, Access Control, Intrusion/Duress, Audio/Video Systems, Digital Signage and Paging/Sound Masking Systems for medical, commercial and/or industrial project types.
    • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suites.
    • Working knowledge of Revit.
