  • Overview

    Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc., dba HGA, seeks a Design Coordinator for our Interiors group in San Jose, CA. The Design Coordinator  produces architectural documents for all phases of a project for Project Managers that are in a manner that is responsive to the client's needs and deadlines while keeping in mind HGA architectural procedures, standards and quality expectations


    The specific duties and responsibilities include:

    • Develop concepts according to parameters defined by Project Manager or Project Architect;
    • Produce construction documents in Revit, including plans, sections and details;
    • Organize the work in an effective manner so as to meet deadlines.
    • Assist with quality control for the design function and integrates and coordinates all disciplines into the building project;
    • Maintain ongoing communication to understand any project changes, design issues or time/budget constraints that may impact initial assignment;
    • Utilize past knowledge and experience to enhance the quality of product, recognize problem issues, communicates impact to team and seeks clarity when necessary;
    • Assure execution of and assists with quality control activities for architectural elements on a project;
    • Review drawings, documents and submittals for document compliance and documenting code review and compliance;
    • Keep lead architect or designated team leader informed of progress, recognize problem issues and communicates impact to team, and seeks clarity when necessary;
    • Use past experience and project knowledge to assist the Project Manager keeping in mind schedules/budgets and provides communication as appropriate with team leaders and/or team members who are responsible for work flow/timelines, etc.;
    • Meet project design schedule and design construction budgets;
    • Participation in value engineering analysis to control project cost and schedules; and
    • Assist with the preparation of analyses including alternates or substitutions to reduce costs.


    The position requires a Master’s degree in Architecture, or a foreign equivalent degree plus at least two (2) years of design and construction document experience working in an architectural firm.  The experience must include at least one (1) year of:  working on project phases (from schematic design through construction documentation) for California healthcare projects, applying California Building Code; IPD project delivery;  working with DSA/OSHPD  approval processes and LEED documentation; documenting both exterior and interior project scopes; developing signage packages and coordination of materials and finishes with vendors; creating virtual  reality modeling for clients visualization; analyzing program requirements.  We also require at least two (2) years of Revit and MS Office Suite experience. Experience may have been gained concurrently.
