    HGA is an award-winning architectural, engineering and planning firm seeking an experienced Sustainability Specialist to join our Sustainable Design group. This position supports project design teams in applying sustainable design best practices, including administration of third party certification processes, such as LEED, Living Building Challenge, and WELL.   




    Your role is to be a resource and team member for projects firm-wide; specific work assignments will vary based on available work load and needs. Tasks may include:

    1. Work with teams and clients to establish goals, plan the work, prepare submittals, and help achieve certification with Third Party Certification bodies.
    2. Prepare sustainability project reports and narratives.
    3. Prepare carbon and LCA analyses.
    4. Conduct research and contribute technical assistance in establishing or evaluating criteria for construction materials selection with emphasis on sustainable materials
    5. Assist project leaders during goal setting meetings
    6. Assist in developing sustainability metrics for firm-wide database and marketing materials.
    7. Assist in developing internal education resources, including developing and presenting live presentations.
    8. Develop early simulation using Sefaira or similar software

    COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, skills and abilities):

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to collaborate and adapt in a non-hierarchical team setting
    • Strong interpersonal skills in working both with colleagues and clients
    • Willingness to travel to HGA offices
    • Knowledge of:
    • Design and construction processes.
    • Current versions of the LEED rating system, WELL Building Standard, and Living Building Challenge
    • Current product certifications related to sustainable materials, i.e., Cradle to Cradle, Environmental Product Declarations, Health Product Declarations, Green Label Plus, etc.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Graduate architect, engineer, or related field with five years design and construction experience.
    • Current LEED AP credential is required.
    • Experience as LEED administrator or a significant contributor to achieving LEED certification, or other third-party sustainability certification systems
    • Experience with a variety of project types helpful.
    • Skills in CAD/Revit, other graphic programs are beneficial.
