    HGA is an award-winning, interdisciplinary design firm with architects, engineers, planners, lighting designers, landscape architects, and interior designers working together to create holistic designs for healthcare, the arts, community, education, corporations, government and district/campus energy clients. This is an exciting opportunity for a talented, ambitious mechanical designer with good people skills to join our Sacramento, CA office.

    In this position, you will perform mechanical engineering duties and responsibilities and work with the Project Manager in the design of project solutions maintaining a commitment to design and quality. This position works under the supervision of a Senior Project Engineer or a Senior Project Leader for large projects, or may lead smaller projects.

    Responsibilities

    1. Assists in the mechanical systems document production effort, including making assignments, reviewing work, and meeting deadlines for project document deliverables and coordinating with the HGA team
    2. Researches non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials
    3. Assists in the preparation of engineering studies and schematic design for new systems and analyze operation of existing systems
    4. Produces sketches and system schematics for complicated design tasks such as layout of mechanical rooms
    5. Produces drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards. Assures that drawings and designs are in accordance with design standards
    6. Makes calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for mechanical designs such as heating and cooling loads, energy models, documentation of ASHRAE 62.1 compliance, plumbing system pipe sizing, etc.
    7. Assists in the selection of scheduling equipment, designs and documents ductwork, piping, plumbing, fire protection, and controls systems
    8. Assists with preparing addendum and change orders
    9. Uses computer programs and spread sheets for engineering analysis and presentations
    10. Performs other duties or responsibilities as assigned

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 4-6 years of mid- to large-project experience, required
    • Knowledge of Revit and AutoCad
    • Proficient knowledge of energy use calculation software, EnergyPro, DOE-2, Equest, etc.
    • B.S. degree, Mechanical Engineering or Associate Degree, Mechanical Systems Design preferred
