    HGA is a leading architectural, engineering and planning firm with an excellent opportunity for a talented, ambitious Senior Mechanical Engineer.  Position requires at least 8 years of experience in the design of central plants for commercial, industrial, healthcare, labs or higher education project types.  Applicant should have a desire to lead the design of these complex projects in our Minneapolis or Milwaukee offices.  The collaborative nature of our projects means communication and teamwork skills are essential; initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision are integral to success. HGA is both team-oriented and employee-friendly where social activities are integrated into our office culture. We offer challenge, recognition and personal visibility with an opportunity to be part of some great projects.

    Responsibilities

    1. Extensive design experience in central plants, including high pressure steam, chilled water, heating hot water, and combined heat and power plants.
    2. Excellence in configuration and layout of mechanical rooms including chillers, tower, boilers, pumps, etc.
    3. Analysis of steam and hydronic systems, including pipe stress analysis, hydraulic flow modeling, systems optimization and life cycle cost analysis.
    4. Articulate and negotiate system options and allowances to manage the client’s construction costs to the desired construction budget.
    5. Perform mechanical engineering calculations, energy modeling and life cycle cost analysis
    6. Familiarity with Building Codes and their influence on mechanical systems design.

    Qualifications

    • Working knowledge of Revit MEP, including integration with architectural models
    • Proficiency with MS Office programs (Word, Excel)
    • Experience with designing systems in compliance with LEED principles and LEED certification is a plus
    • PE is required; LEED AP and/or member of professional societies (ASHRAE, ASPE, USGBC, IDEA) helpful
    • Demonstrated knowledge of DDC and Process Plant Controls.
    • Demonstrated ability to direct a team to produce the required design documentation, keeping within the design budget and schedule.
    • Design experience in sizing and configuring air distribution systems, including direct coordination with architectural, structural and electrical disciplines
