  • Overview

    Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA), a professional architectural and engineering firm, is seeking a Human Resources Manager with strong tactical and interpersonal skills. You will be responsible for working with management and the Director of Human Resources in the areas of employee relations, recruiting, performance management, training and development, as well as the implementation of HR projects, processes, policies and procedures that support the vision and values of HGA.

     

    This position will work from our Sacramento, CA office and support our Los Angeles office as well and will be a part of the 9-person decentralized HR / Payroll group.

    Responsibilities

    Recruitment, Employee Relations and Compensation

    • Provides support and consulting in assigned offices in all human resources functions
    • Conducts recruitment efforts for exempt and nonexempt staff
    • Acts as trusted advisor providing advice and counsel to managers on employee relations matters
    • Performs employee relations activities to promote increased communication, conflict resolution, and employee recognition programs
    • Counsels employees and leadership to settle work-related conflicts through advice and recommendation
    • Consults with the Director of HR to provide compensation recommendations to ensure compliance and equity within the organization
    • Initiates and participates in staff development, including coaching, performance evaluations, career path, and compensation recommendations
    • Develops, writes, and updates job descriptions from direct observation and/or interviews with the position incumbent and discussions with supervisors
    • Collaborates on the development of onboarding content and conducts in-office new employee orientation
    • Updates the HRIS system accurately and on a timely basis with changes in personnel and compensation levels

     

    Training

    • Facilitates various training programs to include hiring and selection, performance management, supervisor and leadership skills, and HR legal updates
    • Researches and recommends external employee training, when applicable

     

    HR Department participation

    • Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems
    • Recommends and implements new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in the efficiency of the HR department and performed services
    • Leads HR strategic goal projects as needed
    • Using the HRIS system and other information resources, generates a variety of department reports in order to compile related statistics and to provide useful information to the organization
    • Ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance with legal requirements and government reporting regulations
    • Keeps abreast of current trends and developments in human resources by establishing professional affiliations and participating in professional activities to include seminars, conferences, and reading appropriate books and journals

     

     

    Qualifications

    Qualified candidates will possess:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or other related field
      8 plus years of progressive HR Generalist experience
    • Expert knowledge in California employment law
    • Experience with iCIMS applicant tracking software
    • Ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
    • Exceptional communication skills, including oral, written and presentation skills
    • Ability to analyze and assimilate information from multiple sources to develop clear, actionable steps and recommendations
    • High level of integrity
    • Ability to influence upward and outward
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities with a sense of urgency
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
    • Creative problem solving and critical decision-making skills
    • Exceptional customer service
    • Aility to work collaboratively within the HR department and across the organization
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
       

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or SHRM-SCP certification
    • Professional services firm experience
    • Ability to travel, including overnight as required (20%)
