Overview

HGA is an award-winning architectural, engineering, interior design, and planning firm with a full-time opportunity in our Alexandria VA office for an energetic, driven and creative Sr. Interior Designer or Interior Architect. This individual should have a portfolio of successful higher education work. In this position, you would collaborate with and be an integral part of the architectural and interior design team, supporting both development of interior design efforts and implementation of that vision. The ideal individual would be building a proven record of client development, winning projects and successfully executing from design to construction while continuing to work with clients on the next effort.

Responsibilities

  1. Works with Architectural and Interior Design teams to develop the interior design direction, translating complex programming requirements into schematic design while developing detailed concepts focusing on the patient experience
  2. Researches materials and concepts to advise and direct design team on technical issues influencing interior design concept development
  3. Collaborates and communicates effectively and professionally with multidisciplinary team members
  4. Utilizes past knowledge and experience to enhance the quality of design
  5. Coordinates the design work of others and ensures integrated and cohesive design
  6. Works within project schedules to prioritize tasks and coordinate the completion of documentation required from initial design phase through final project completion
  7. Reviews material submittals and conduct on-site observations
  8. Coordinates interior design data gathering and document preparation

Knowledge of:

  1. Interior design concepts, materials and furnishings requirements specific to Higher Education projects – includes concepts, practices, standards and principles
  2. Thorough understanding of the technical process for large-scale interiors projects with a specific emphasis in the arts, community and hight education sector as defined by the firm
  3. Building materials, specifications and construction techniques
  4. Applicable codes (city, state, federal)
  5. Finish materials, FF&E selection and specification, interior design components for millwork/casework and construction detailing

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree from an accredited Interior Design / Interior Architecture program
  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience with a focus on higher education
  • Professional licensure and/or certification required; LEED AP and EDAC strongly encouraged
  • Fluent knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and other graphic tools
  • Fluent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
